The palace erected in 1762-1768 for the famous Madame de Pompadour, meters of Louis XV, is considered the first classicist building. The work of Jacques-Ange Gabriel was met with recognition and was eagerly imitated. The recipient never lived in the palace - she died before the construction was completed.
