The former mass grave from the 16th century is one of the few cemeteries of this type in Europe. It has been classified as a historical monument. Saint-Maclou Cemetery dates back to the time of the first Black Death epidemic in 1348. After another epidemic of plague in the 16th century, it was necessary to expand the tomb. Galleries topped with an attic were built then, in which bones were laid. The construction of the ossuary began in 1526.
