La Palmyre Zoo
Local name: Zoo de La Palmyre
The La Palmyre Zoological Garden is located in Les Mathes on the Atlantic coast of France. About 1600 animals representing 130 species were placed here, which were placed in 14 thematic sections. They are presented here, among others species such as gorillas, chimpanzees, zebras, antelopes, giraffes, polar bears, Amur tigers and African penguins.
La Palmyre Zoological Garden was officially opened in 1966 and now covers an area of over 18 ha. Particular attention was paid here to the fauna of the French overseas departments and territories, and to the protection of such species as the Borneo orangutan, lion's marmoset, Indian elephant, white rhinoceros and oryx.
The La Palmyre Zoological Garden is a member of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums, the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums, the National Association of Zoos and works to protect primates of West Africa.
