Notre-Dame des Dombes Abbey
Local name: Abbaye Notre-Dame des Dombes
Established in 1863, the Cistercian abbey was established in order to lead a monastic life, but also to drain the Dombes swamps, raise the culture of crops and fishery. The monks wrote a beautiful page during World War II when they protected persecuted Jews. Currently, the abbey is famous for its regional products: honey, meat, fish, apples and jams.
