Sanctuary of Ars
Local name: Sanctuaire d'Ars
Church erected in the second half of the Nineteenth century was established as a place of worship of St. John Maria Vianney (1786-1859), known as the Pastor of Ars. The body of the official patron saint of Catholic parish priests is placed in a special glass coffin - his heart is placed in a special side altar. About half a million pilgrims visit the sanctuary every year.
