Kemi is a port in Lapland and one of the largest cities in the Finnish North. It is famous for the Lumilinna snow castle, which is built each year in winter, which is considered to be the largest such structure in the world.
The city was founded as a port on the Gulf of Bothnia in the mid-19th century. It is now an important commercial and industrial center in this part of the country. Although it does not offer many monuments, in Kemi you can visit the Precious Stones Gallery and the Historical Museum.
The biggest attraction of Kemi is the Lumilinna Ice Castle - SnoExperience365. It is built each year when the temperature is kept below 7 degrees Celsius. Inside, there are exhibitions of ice sculptures, as well as a restaurant and accommodation. Each year the castle changes its appearance a bit because it is made anew.
An equally interesting place in Kemi is the Sampo Icebreaker. In summer, there is a restaurant on board. In winter, you can go on a cruise on the frozen Gulf of Bothnia. At the end of the cruise, there is a possibility of sea bathing in a special insulated suit.
