Christmas sculptures made by the baroque artist Matthias Bernhard Braun are found in the woods near Dvur Kralove. It is a monumental scene consisting of a relief made on a rock and figures known from the Gospel accounts of the birth of Jesus.
The sculpture was created thanks to the owner of the surrounding forests, Franz Anton Sporck. In 1717 he initiated the creation of a pilgrimage complex in this area, which was to serve prayer and meditation. To this end, he founded two monasteries, Saint Anthony and Saint Paul. They have not survived to this day. You can only see the remains of foundations. Fountains were also built in the forest, and part of it was arranged as a garden.
Today, little remains of the entire foundation funded by Sporck. Time, nature and years of neglect have done their part. The Christmas Sculpture itself is best preserved by a natural rock cave. It is given gradual renovation. Efforts are underway to enter the entire complex on the UNESCO list. A walking and educational trail leads through the forest with stops at the places of the monasteries and at the most important parts of the establishment.
