Soacha is a large city on the edge of the Bogota Metropolitan Area. It is primarily an industrial and residential center, and the area is known for its beautiful mountain landscapes.
The city was founded in the 17th century, but it gained importance only after Colombia gained independence. It has become one of Bogota's satellites and a place where housing was bought by the local middle class. Currently, it is primarily an industrial center and a mosaic of residential districts whose inhabitants work in the capital.
Soacha is a good base from which to explore the Chicaque Natural Park. It covers mountainous, forested areas with deep river valleys and waterfalls. The Tequendama Falls with a total height of 132 m are nearby. Access to them is via a marked trail from the parking lot, where you can also visit the Tequendama Falls Museum.
