Los Lagos is a region known as the Land of Lakes and Volcanoes. It includes a large fragment of the fragmented, full of bays coast and inland areas with lakes, waterfalls and towering snow-capped volcanoes. It also includes the island of Chiloé, which is one of the greatest attractions of Chile.
The region is very diverse in terms of landscape and primarily attracts enthusiasts of active recreation. Visiting Los Lagos is primarily about walking tours through the vast areas of national parks such as the Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park and the Alerce Andino National Park. Numerous hiking trails lead to lakes and waterfalls, and more experienced hikers can also go to one of the volcanoes.
Beautiful landscapes and numerous hidden natural treasures are the greatest attractions of Los Lagos. Some of the best trekking areas are in the Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park. Visiting it cannot be done without visiting the Petrohue Waterfalls and Lake Kochanków. The triangular top of the Osorno Volcano towers over the entire area, with hiking trails leading to it. Trekking around Cerro Tronador is also a great experience.
On the other hand, on Lake Llanquihue, whose shores also belong to the national park, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Calbuco Volcano. Llanquihue is Chile's second largest lake and is very popular with windsurfing enthusiasts.
One of the biggest attractions of Los Lagos is the island of Grande de Chiloe. Its area is protected by the Chiloe National Park and its beauty lies in the wonderful combination of nature and architecture. On the island you can see villages with stilt houses, penguin colonies, rocky coast full of coves, houses covered with ceramic tiles, as well as unique wooden churches, often very extensive, which are included in the UNESCO list.
