Zheravna

Local name: Жеравна

The historic, historic village was founded between the 12th and 14th centuries. It lies in a valley at an altitude of 580 m above sea level at the southern foot of the Stara Planina mountain range. It is entirely an architectural reserve of national importance.

There are over 200 wooden houses in the village from the 18th and 19th centuries, which represent the characteristic style of the Bulgarian Renaissance. They are one and two-story buildings, surrounded by stone walls. They stand along picturesque, cobbled streets.

While visiting the village, it is worth visiting the Church of St. Nicholas from 1834. There are historic icons from the 18th and 19th centuries. You can also visit the art gallery located in the former school and the family house of the writer Jordan Jowkow, now transformed into a museum.
