Belo Horizonte is a modern city with museums and parks. With the urban layout and buildings of the center modeled on Washington, it is the most important city in the state of Minas Gerais.
The city developed from a mining settlement established in the second half of the 19th century. It is situated at the foot of the Serra do Espinhaço mountains and due to the microclimate that prevails here, it has spa qualities. The development of Belo Horizonte took place at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Its eclectic center was created then, the layout of which is modeled on Waszyngotnie. To this day, you can see many public buildings from that period. Many of them now house museums that are among the top attractions of Belo Horizonte, such as Memorial Minas Gerais Vale, MM Gerdau and the Mining Museum. Visiting Belo Horizonte also includes such buildings as the Cathedral of Our Lady with Boa Viagem, the Church of the Kingdom of God, the Basilica of Our Lady of Lourdes and the Palace of Liberty.
The local parks are beautiful and very attractive, such as the Américo Renné Giannetti Park or the Liberty Square with a pond, square and fountains. The Abilio Barreto Historical Museum, housed in a colonial house, is also located in a park setting.
