The vast, sandy beach is 5 km long, making it a great place for walks along the seashore. The beach is clean and has a developed infrastructure - there are toilets, showers, changing cabins and good catering facilities. You can rent sun loungers and umbrellas here, as well as water equipment. During the season it is guarded by lifeguards.
The beach is not protected by a breakwater, so the waves can be quite high here. This makes it a popular place for surfing and windsurfing. There is a monument by the beach commemorating the disembarkation of King Leopold I. It took place on July 17, 1831.
It is one of the widest beaches on the Belgian coast - at low tide it is 200 meters wide. The beach is adjacent to a nature reserve with a wide strip of dunes, considered the most beautiful in the North Sea. Nearly a third of all dunes in Belgium are located here. 10 km of walking routes have been marked out along them.
