The museum is dedicated to the life and work of Guido Gezelle, a Flemish poet and linguist living in the 19th century. It is located in the 16th-century house where Gezelle was born and spent his childhood. Here you can see his personal items, including a book collection, manuscripts and photographs, as well as a desk and travel suitcase.
In addition to the permanent exhibition dedicated to the poet, temporary exhibitions on poetry and literature are organized here. A fruit and vegetable garden adjoins the museum, which is also open to visitors. It is a reference to natural beauty, which is one of the main inspirations in Gezelli's work.
At the entrance to the museum there is a sculpture by the controversial artist Jan Fabre. Her name can be translated as "The man who carries fire" or "The man who gives light." It is a tribute to Gezelli's work and achievements.
