It is the most important fishing port in the Basque Country, and its history dates back to the 15th century. Today, it has 415 berths, 350 of which are less than 8 m and the remaining 65 are more than 8 m long. They are equipped with access to water, electricity and fuel. Shipyards and repair shops operate here.
The seaward entrance to the port is protected by a breakwater 800 m long. At the entrance from the city side, you can see a stone sculpture depicting a mermaid.
