Kreuzgang der Kathedrale
Lokaler Name: Claustre de la catedral
Barcelona Cathedral Monastery was most likely founded in the 9th century, while the historic Gothic cloister that can be admired today was built in the 14th-15th centuries. It has the form of a quadrilateral with four galleries, separated by solid pillars. The three wings are surrounded by chapels that are open to the public.
The cloister is connected to the cathedral by a monumental Romanesque door made of white Italian marble. Some historians believe that they were the side door of the former Romanesque cathedral that stood here earlier. Both the door and the arches of the cloister are decorated with bas-reliefs depicting scenes from the Old and New Testaments and the legend of the Tree of the Holy Cross.
The small monastery garden is 25 meters long and 6 meters wide. There is a historic fountain from the mid-15th century.
