Schloss Krásna Hôrka

Lokaler Name: Hrad Krásna Hôrka

The castle towering over the village of Krásnohorské Podhradie, which has been a national cultural monument since 1961. You can get from the village to the foot of the fortress by car, but a 30-minute walk along the yellow trail is definitely more exciting.

The Gothic-style castle was built by the Mariassy family around 1320. Over time, it was rebuilt into a defensive fortification in the Renaissance style, which was to protect against Turkish invasions. For centuries, the walls were inhabited by various families. The last was the House of Andrassa. In 1904, Dionýz Andrássy established the first private museum in the castle, which gave rise to today's collection. He also built a marble mausoleum in the same town. In 1945, the castle became the property of the Czechoslovak government.

The castle exhibition includes a rich collection of weapons, furniture from various eras, an exhibition of antique musical instruments and paintings. Noteworthy is the well-preserved castle kitchen with complete antique equipment. Part of the harvest was burnt in 2012 in a fire that was ignited by the playing children.
