Fiľakovo Castle is a ruin of a medieval castle located in Fiľakovo. It used to be one of the largest and most important fortresses in the region. Since 1972, conservation works have been carried out in the ruins. There is a museum exhibition in the reconstructed tower called Bebekova. There is also an educational trail that allows you to learn about the history of the castle and the interesting geology of the hill on which it was built. The fortress is located within the Novohrad-Nógrád Geopark.
The first records of the castle come from the mid-13th century, although the wooden building already existed in the 12th century. In the 16th century, the fortress was rebuilt into a Renaissance fortress with two towers, a moat and a defensive wall. However, this did not prevent it from being captured by the Turks. After taking the castle from their hands, it underwent further reconstructions, but in the 17th century, after the invasion and the fire, the fortress was abandoned.
