The beginning of today's castle was a small fort consisting of three brick buildings surrounded by a stone wall, the construction of which began in 1298. The final, baroque form of the building was obtained as a result of reconstruction after a fire in the 17th century. Currently, the castle is the seat of, among others, National Museum of Fine Arts.
