The castle was built around 1285 around the observation and defense tower existing here since the 11th century. The stronghold was seriously damaged during the war between Denmark and Sweden in the early Sixteenth century and since then it fell into disrepair. Currently, it is a tourist attraction and a place for organizing cultural events.
