Wachtturm Przewodziszowice

Lokaler Name: Strażnica Przewodziszowice

The ruins of a brick watchtower are located in the forest, near the highest elevation of the Częstochowa Plateau (423 m above sea level). The clearing is dominated by a high, massive rock with preserved, partially reconstructed, fragments of the stone wall. A small fragment of the tower walls and the remains of the former moat have also survived. The rock with the ruins of the watchtower is now used for climbing.

The watchtower was built around the 14th century, probably by order of King Casimir the Great (it would then be part of the fortifications on the famous Trail of the Eagles' Nests). Some historians believe, however, that its construction could have been commissioned by the Silesian prince Władysław Opolczyk.

In the fifteenth century, the building was the seat of the famous robber-knight Mikołaj Kornicz, "Siestrzeńc". According to legend, the treasures he looted from the rich were hidden in a castle well carved in the solid rock, or in one of the rock crevices.
