Quistorp Turm

Lokaler Name: Wieża Quistorpa

The ruins of the Quistorp Tower are located in the Arkona Park, on the highest local hill called the Arkona Hill. Until today, a stone base with arcades and a small fragment of a brick tower have been preserved, from which in the past one could admire the panorama of the area from several different levels. Several hiking routes lead to the ruins.

The tower was erected in 1900–1904 at the behest of Martin Quistorp. It was supposed to be a kind of memorial and at the same time a tribute to his father, Johannes Quistorp, who was very meritorious to Szczecin, a manufacturer, philanthropist and founder of many municipal investments. The design of the tower in the neo-gothic style with elements of neo-romanticism was made by the Berlin architect Franz Schwechten.

The tower used to be 45 meters high. There was a cafe in its lower part. In April 1914, lightning destroyed the glass dome at the top of the tower and the upper viewing balcony. It was finally destroyed in unclear circumstances during World War II.
