Getreidespeicher-Ruinen
Lokaler Name: Ruiny spichlerza
The picturesque ruins located on the banks of the Narew River are the remains of a huge granary erected in the mid-nineteenth century. They were used as an outdoor setting during the filming of "Pan Tadeusz" directed by A. Wajda, becoming a castle for the Horeszko family for the film adaptation.
The structure was built of brick in the neo-renaissance style. The architect Jan Jakub Gaya was responsible for the design, and the necessary money was provided by the Bank of Poland. From the moment of its construction, the granary was a fortified structure - with time it was transformed into the warehouse of the Modlin fortress, and then the seat of the military port command.
The structure was destroyed during World War II as a result of incendiary bombs. Mainly the outer walls have survived to the present day. The ruins are in a bad technical condition at the moment and approaching them may be dangerous.
