Charles Fort

Lokaler Name: Fort Karola

The fort is the remains of a fortification built on the slopes of Mount Ptak (841 m above sea level) in the Table Mountains. It offers a wide, picturesque panorama of the surrounding area, including the highest peak of the Table Mountains - Szczeliniec.

The Charles Fort was built in 1790 by order of the King of Prussia, Frederick William III. Major Bonawentura von Rauch was responsible for its construction. The building was part of a series of fortifications guarding the Prussian-Austrian border. The task of the fort was to control the road to Radków. However, its construction was never completed for political reasons.

To this day, only parts of the fort have survived - fragments of the wall, gate, stairs and platforms, ingeniously integrated into the sandstone rocks. The ruins of the fort are located near the green tourist trail. It takes a few minutes to reach them along an unmarked path.
