The state nature reserve is situated in the heart of an area characterized by natural features and local high-quality products and handicrafts. It was founded in 2001 and covers the provinces of Massa and Carrara, Lucca, Reggio Emilia and Parma. The area is mainly dominated by peaks, lakes and meadows.
