Herzoglicher Garten

Lokaler Name: Parco Giardino Ducale Estense

The history of the park dates back to the first half of the 17th century, when Prince Francis I commissioned the architect Gaspare Vigarani to establish the palace gardens. There were classic statues, a covered pavilion and a sundial. Currently, the revitalized park also houses a playground for children, a fountain and a picturesque lake, where you can often see ducks and swans.

On the border of the park there is a Botanical Garden, established as early as 1758. In the first half of the 19th century, greenhouses were built there, in which rare and medicinal plant species were grown. Currently, the garden belongs to the University of Modena, but is open to the public. While walking in it, you can admire the various species of trees, shrubs and flowers, and each has an information plaque.
