A city fortress formerly owned by the Sforza family. It was erected at the beginning of the 14th century, and in the 15th century it was adapted to the increasingly perfect art of siege with the use of cannons. From 1499, when the fortress was conquered by Cesare Borgia, it was turned into a papal prison. In the 19th century it became a state prison and it served this role until the middle of the 20th century. Currently, it houses a museum with a collection of weapons and ceramics.
