The nature park covers the area of two glacier valleys, Alpe Veglia and Alpe Devero, at an altitude of 1,600 to 3,553 meters above sea level. They are surrounded by massive peaks, most of which are covered with glaciers. There are over 60 routes of various lengths and levels of difficulty in the park, enabling both trekking and climbing.

The park has been recognized as an area of special protection (SPA) under the Natura 2000 project. ibex, roe deer, deer, chamois and golden eagles. One of the rarest butterflies in Europe, Erebia christi, also lives here. The vegetation here is quite homogeneous, typical of alpine areas. Larch dominates among the trees, but fir and alders also grow here.

Due to the avalanche danger, the park is open to tourists mainly in summer. In winter, it can only be navigated on skis or snowshoes, preferably with an experienced mountain guide.
