The Limerick City Art Gallery is one of the country's most respected collections of contemporary art. There are paintings, graphics, posters, sculptures, artistic fabrics, ceramics and multimedia installations created from the 18th century to the present day.
The gallery's collection includes works by artists such as Paul Henry, Jack B. Yeats, Sean Keating, Charles Lamb, Letita Hamilton, Grace Henry, Sarah Purser, Walter Verling, Donald Teskey and John Shinnors. There is also a huge collection of posters amassed by Michael O'Connor. In addition to the permanent exhibitions, there are six to eight temporary exhibitions annually.
The gallery is an important cultural institution. There are meetings with artists, vernissages, presentations of multimedia installations, shows of modern artistic forms, film screenings and concerts.
