Insel Re
Lokaler Name: Ile De Ré
The island is situated on the northern side of the Pertuis d'Antioche. It is 30 km long and 5 km wide. It is connected with the mainland by a nearly 3-km long bridge, built in 1988. Numerous paths and bicycle routes have been marked out here. There are also many campsites, hotels and a well-developed tourist infrastructure.
There are two ports on the island, including one fishing port. The picturesque beaches are good places to walk along the seashore, but remember that the water is rather cool here. During your stay on the island you can enjoy sailing, surfing, horse riding, and go golfing.
The remains of the medieval Saint-Laurent Abbey have been preserved on the island. There are also remains of German bunkers from the period of World War II.
