Maison de Balzac

Lokaler Name: Maison de Balzac

The Balzac House in Paris is a museum dedicated to the life and work of the French writer Honoré de Balzac. The residence is situated in a building with a garden and a courtyard. The museum collects everyday items belonging to the writer, incl. desk with chair and tea and coffee making facilities.

This place is the only one of all Balzac's apartments, mansions and estates that has survived to this day. The writer lived here in the years 1840-1847 in a five-room apartment on the top floor of a tenement house. The building was purchased in 1949 by the Paris authorities, which established a literary museum in it.

It was here that Balzac's novel series, Comedy Human, was created. A library was established on the ground floor of the residence. It contains original novels, manuscripts and illustrations that were made or signed by the writer. There are also articles and press clippings devoted to Balzac in contemporary newspapers and magazines.
