Italienischer Platz
Lokaler Name: Place d'Italie
Italian Square is the communication, commercial and cultural center of Paris's 13th arrondissement. The most important streets intersect here. There is also a large shopping center Italie 2. There are many restaurants and cinemas around the square, including one of the largest in Paris, Grand Ecrane Italie.
The square was laid out during the great expansion of Paris in the mid-19th century. Previously, these were suburban areas with numerous gardens and a craftsman's seat. The square was named after the main road that ran through it, connecting the capital of France with the Italian border.
The buildings in the square and its immediate vicinity come mainly from the 20th century. It was created during the next great reconstruction of the city, which took place in the 1960s. It was therefore decided that skyscrapers and skyscrapers will be built outside the strict, historic center of Paris. At the square, you can see, among others, the Italie 2 shopping center, which was designed by the famous architect Kenzo Tange.
