Historische Bibliothek der Stadt Paris
Lokaler Name: Bibliothèque historique
The Historical Library of the City of Paris is housed in the 16th-century building of the Hotel Lamoignon in the Marais district. It is a specialized library that collects documents and literature related to the history of Paris and the Ile de France region, from the 16th century to the present day.
Initially, the library was housed in the Hotel de Ville, but in the 19th century it was destroyed by a fire. In 1871 it was decided to create a library devoted only to the history of the city. It has in its collection documents and books on topography, town planning, history, society as well as the artistic and cultural life of the city and the region.
The library is located in a late-Renaissance palace, the interiors of which were adapted to the needs of storing and sharing library collections.
