Garten des Arsenalhafens
Lokaler Name: Jardin du Port de l'Arsenal
The harbor was formerly a cargo port. It is currently part of the Paris canals. It owes its name to the nearby Arsenal reservoir. Tourists can take advantage of the nearby cafes and restaurants serving mainly seafood, and go on a boat trip.
The port is in the immediate vicinity of Place de la Bastille.
After the French Revolution in July 1789, when the Bastille was destroyed, the idea arose to develop the Arsenal reservoir to replace the moat. So it was rebuilt in such a way so that it was filled with water from the Seine. In the first half of the 19th century, the Saint-Martin Canal was created and added to the Seine at the level of the Arsenal. At the beginning of the 20th century, this place was converted into a port due to the large movement of barges transporting various types of goods, including mainly wheat, wine and wood.
