Suomen Joutsen Schiff

Lokaler Name: Fregatti Suomen Joutsen

The Suomen Joutsen is a museum ship, anchored next to the Forum Marinum museum in Turku. It is one of the largest museum ships in Finland. Its restored interior houses a permanent exhibition devoted to its history. There are also regular shows and themed parties on board.

The ship was built in 1902 in France under the name Laënnec. She served as a cargo ship, carrying loads of grain and coal between Europe and America and Australia. In 1922, it was purchased by a German owner and renamed Oldenburg. In 1930, she was bought by the Finnish government and converted into a training ship for the Finnish Navy. It was then that it got its current name, Suomen Joutsen. From the beginning of the 1960s, it housed the Finnish Merchant Navy school, and from 1991 it operated as a museum.
