The Kuopio Cultural History Museum is dedicated to the history, culture and ethnography of the city and the whole of Northern Savonia. It was founded in 1884. It is housed in the Kuopio Museum building, which is the third oldest museum building in Finland. Only the Athenaeum, built in 1877 and the Museum of Art in Turku from 1904, are older than him.
Currently, the collection of the Kuopio Cultural History Museum includes about 70,000 exhibits. Permanent exhibitions are dedicated to natural history and cultural history. Temporary exhibitions on various topics are also held regularly. In addition, the museum has a collection of photos, numbering about one million photos.
