Kotka Kirche

Lokaler Name: Kotkan kirkko

The church in Kotka stands in the city center. It was built of red brick in the neo-Gothic style in the years 1897-1898. It can accommodate 1,500 worshipers. Inside, there is a first floor with a gallery, supported by pillars that divide the temple into three parts. It is worth paying attention to the painting on the main altar, made by Pekka Halonen in 1900.

The side walls of the church in Kotka are decorated with 6-meter stained glass windows and rosettes. They were made in Germany and consist of over 2,000 pieces of glass. The church tower is 54 meters high and serves as a clock tower. The original movement, made by the Swedish watchmaker Linderoth, was placed in it in 1898. At the end of the 1990s, it was replaced with an electric one.

There is also a 44-voice organ made by Martti Porthan in the church. They are modeled on the 18th-century baroque organ from the cathedral in Freiberg, Germany
