Stratford-upon-Avon is a city inextricably linked with the figure of William Shakespeare. Every year, over 3 million tourists come to see the places that have shaped one of the greatest playwrights of all time.

The city is small and has never had much importance in the region. It was a local trading center, and its fame today lies largely in its relationship with Shakespeare. Which doesn't mean there's nothing to see here. On the contrary. Stratford-upon-Avon is a charming historic town with a historic old town full of narrow streets and houses from different eras.

Most tourists, however, mainly visit the Birthplace of Shakespeare, i.e. a 16th-century timber-framed house, where you can see the life of the writer's family. Other places in the city are also associated with Shakespeare, such as New Place, the house where he spent the last years of his life, his wife's Ann Hathaway's Cottage, and Mary Arden's House, which was owned by the writer's family.

Stratford-upon-Avon's attractions also include three local theaters, the Royal Shakespeare Theater, The Swan and The Other Place. Their repertoire includes works by Shakespeare, which are exhibited periodically, mainly for tourists. In turn, at the Westerside Theater, you can watch a Shakespearience show based on threads from the playwright's life.

Those looking for something to do with nature can take advantage of the Stratford Butterfly House and the numerous parks around the city. Cruises on the Avon River are also a popular attraction.
