Skegness is a seaside resort on the North Sea and has been a popular vacation spot for residents of central England's industrial towns since the 19th century. It has a wide, sandy beach and offers many holiday entertainment, such as an amusement park, a pier or places for active recreation.

Until the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, Skegness was one of the many fishing towns on the Lincolnshire coast. It did not play a significant role either in the local economy or in history. The situation changed with the advent of the fashion for leisure by the sea. An additional impulse for the development of the center was the construction of a railway line in the second half of the 19th century. Thanks to it, inhabitants of industrial cities from central England began to come to Skegness, often for weekend or even one-day holidays.

Today the most important attractions of Skegness are concentrated near the sea shore. The first place is the sandy, wide Skegness Beach and the pier overlooking the sea. There is a pavilion with a cafe and entertainment venues. Pleasure Beach amusement park is very popular in the summer season.

An unusual attraction of Skegness is the artificial lake Boating Lake built in the vicinity of the beach. Here you can rent boats and take a ride on the water. The Natureland Seal Sanctuary is also nearby. It is a place where mutilated, sick and man-injured seals are sent to regain their full strength. Those who have already had bad experiences can be watched while lounging on the beach or swimming in special pools.

Away from the coast is Village Church Farm, a small living open-air museum where you can see how the people of Skegness used to live in the past. Another attraction in the area is the narrow-gauge tourist railway, which currently serves a route with a length of approx. 2.5 km.
