Paignton is a seaside resort that is part of the English Riviera and the UNESCO-listed Devon Coast Geopark. It has beautiful, sandy beaches and offers many opportunities for active leisure.

Until the mid-19th century, Paignton was a fishing village of negligible importance on a coastal scale. It was only changed by the tourism boom, which caused crowds of city dwellers, especially Londoners, to go to the seaside. The construction of a railroad to London and Exeter also contributed to the growth of Paington's popularity.

Soon Paington, along with the neighboring towns of Brixham and Torquay, began to play a leading role in leisure tourism on the Devon coast. However, it was not until 1998 that cooperation was formalized and a conurbation called Torbay, consisting of these three centers, was established.

The biggest advantage and main attraction of Paignton are the local wide, sandy beaches. In addition to the city beach, Preston Sands beach is also popular. A wide promenade lined with palm trees stretches along the beach, and Paington Pier overlooks the sea. In the pavilions there are cafes, clubs and a games room and other entertainment.

Among the attractions of Paington, those related to the seaside are in the lead. There are water equipment rentals, and in neighboring Goodrington there is a large water park, Splashdown Quaywest. A Geoplay Park was launched for children, related to the Geopark operating on the coast. You can also take advantage of the mini golf course and visit the Zoo and Botanical Garden of Paignton.
