Milton Keynes is a city that arose in the mid-twentieth century from a combination of several surrounding villages. There is no strict center or monuments here. The urban layout itself and the numerous parks that separate the previous villages are interesting.
In the 1960s, the authorities decided to create a new city that would relieve overcrowded London. In this way, Milton Keynes was created, a city-garden combining pre-existing villages. This was to lead to even development and limiting the division into the center and suburbs. At the same time, a completely new network of streets was marked out here, which were arranged hierarchically. Most of the intersections were given the function of roundabouts, and initially it was also assumed that no buildings higher than trees would be built here.
One of the main recreational areas in Milton Keynes is Lake Willen and the extensive park surrounding it. You can enjoy water sports, jogging, cycling and picnics. A place connected with history is Bletchey Park, a cryptological center during World War II, in which the operation of the German encryption machine Enigma was worked out with the participation of Poles.
