Hastings is a popular seaside resort and a place inextricably linked to the history of Great Britain. It was here in 1066 that the troops of William the Conqueror defeated the Anglo-Saxon army, beginning the period of the Norman conquest of the island.

The origins of the city date back to antiquity, when copper ore was mined in the area. The settlement was also a small port, but not of much importance for this part of the country. It entered the salons of great history only in 1066, due to the battle that decided the fate of Great Britain. Today it is one of the most important battles in European history.

The battlefield is outside Hastings, within what is now the village of Battle. The ruins of the 11th century castle standing on the West Cliff are a reminder of the Norman rule in these areas. There is also a church of St. Klemens from the 13th century and numerous historic tenement houses that form the picturesque center.

The city is situated between two cliffs, West and East. In the West there is the mentioned castle, while the East is intended for recreational purposes. Hastings Country Park is located here, with walking paths, picnic areas and an observation deck. You can get to the top by stairs or funicular railway.

From the 19th century, Hastings began to turn into a popular seaside resort. Although the local beach is rocky, many residents of nearby London choose to relax by the sea here. Recreational attractions are the Hastings Pier, the promenade, and in the summer season also merry-go-rounds and other recreational devices set up by the beach. In the city, you can also visit the Fisheries Museum and the Shipwreck Museum.
