The Ekomuseum Bergslagen is a network of open-air museums and museums where you can see an exhibition related to the development of metallurgy and iron mining. It includes approximately 60 objects scattered throughout Dalarna. Bergslagen was once the most important iron mining and processing center in Sweden.
The museum includes, among others Ludvika Gammelgård, a mining museum with a rich collection of minerals and fossils, an abandoned iron ore mine operating in Ludvice at the turn of the 20th century, a museum in Stora Hagen with an exhibition dedicated to Johan Bernhard Eriksson, an employee of the mining company in Grängesbergs and a well-known politician.
The museum was established in 1986. Visitors will learn about the process of smelting iron, find out where the greatest natural resources of this metal were and where the main transport routes ran.
