Kristianstad is a historic city, the main monument of which is the Holy Trinity Church, considered the most beautiful Renaissance religious building in Scandinavia.
The city was founded in 1614 by the Danish king Christian IV. They were surrounded by solid defensive walls to stop the repeated Swedish invasions. Two years earlier, such an invasion destroyed the nearby town of Væ, whose inhabitants had been relocated to Kristianstad.
Kristianstad's main attractions are concentrated within the center. There is a brick church of the Holy Trinity here. The Renaissance body conceals an interior with an early-Baroque interior with a magnificent organ with a gilded prospect. The former Christian IV Palace now houses the Regional Museum, and between tenement houses from different eras you can also see the 19th century town hall.
One of the favorite places of relaxation for Kristianstad residents and tourists is the picturesque Tivoli Park with its Art Nouveau theater building. In turn, the vicinity of the city called the Water Kingdom encourages people to practice active tourism. It is a world of swamps, lakes and small rivers, where you can go canoeing, boating or fishing.
