Drottningholm is a former town and is now one of the districts of Stockholm, a UNESCO-protected residence, surrounded by baroque gardens.

Built on the island of Lovon on Lake Malaren, the palace is one of the most important residences in Scandinavia. It is here that the Swedish royal family lives on a daily basis, and the Royal Palace in Stockholm is only its workplace. Currently, some of the rooms are open to visitors. The extensive gardens surrounding the palace are also open to guests.

The first palace was built on the island by Jan III Vasa in 1579. He dedicated it to his wife, Anna Jagiellon. This residence lasted only a few dozen years and burned down in 1661. The new, late Renaissance palace was built almost immediately after the fire on the order of Queen Jadwiga Eleonora. Successive rulers of Sweden added new attractions to it, such as a court theater, a Chinese pavilion or classicist interior design.

Drottningholm Palace is an attraction in itself, and in combination with baroque gardens and an English park, it creates a wonderful architectural and park complex, one of the most magnificent buildings in Stockholm and its surroundings.
