The Salamanca frog is a decorative element on the decorative facade of the main building of the University of Salamanca. It shows a small amphibian sitting on a skull. In the Middle Ages, the frog was a symbol of desire. The façade was made in 1553, which is why the image of the frog was probably supposed to be a warning for students against excessively promiscuous lifestyle.
There are several legends associated with the frog. According to one of them, a student who manages to spot it among the other decorative elements of the facade will successfully complete the studies and pass all the exams.
