Fore Abbey is located near the village of the same name in County Westmeath. It was founded in the 7th century, but the church whose ruins can be admired today dates back to around 900. Apart from him, the foundations of residential buildings have also been preserved.
The monastery stands among meadows, in an open space. It was founded around 630 by Saint Fechin. According to sources, about 300 monks lived here during the monastery's prosperity. They were associated with the French Benedictine community in Evreux.
A small part of the monastery buildings has survived to our times. The ruins of the church are in the best condition. It is an oblong structure made of gray stone. You can also see the remains of the cloisters. Only the foundations remained of the farm houses.
