Herbert Park

Локальное имя: Herbert Park

Herbert Park is a park in the Ballsbridge district. It is divided into two parts by the road of the same name. In most of the park there are sports fields, a large pond with ducks and a playground for children. The historic gazebo attracts attention. In the northern, smaller part of the park, there is a second, newer playground for children, as well as tennis courts and the bowling alley of the Herbert Park Bowling club.

In 1907, the World Fair, known as the International Irish Exhibition, was held in Ballsbridge. When the buildings were demolished, the site was transformed into the present public park. The only remnant from this period is the gazebo and the pond, which turned out to be a perfect location for breeding carp. When it was emptied for cleaning in 2006, the harvested specimens measured an average of 60 cm in length. Three years later the pond was restocked again.

The park is named after the ancestral name of the 14th Earl of Pembroke. It was he who donated to the city the area where the park is now located.
