Ardgillan Castle and Demesne
Локальное имя: Ardgillan Castle and Demesne
Ardgillan Castle is located in the public park of Demesne. The 18th-century building consists of two floors and a basement. The castle has been restored and is now open to the public. The upstairs rooms, previously designated for servants, are used for classes and exhibitions, including the permanent "Down Survey" exhibition. The park has a walled herb garden, a rose garden, a Victorian conservatory and a tea room. There is also a playground for children.
In mid-2016, a new cafe, Paws at Ardgillan, was opened in the castle gardens. It is housed in the former gardener's cottage and is friendly to dogs that can go inside and eat meals with the owners. It is one of Ireland's first city park initiatives of this type.
At the end of the property, there is a bridge called Lady's Stairs, believed to be haunted. The ghost of a woman fruitlessly waiting for her husband, who went swimming and never came back, is supposed to appear here.
