The original Romanesque stronghold (keep surrounded by a wooden palisade) was rebuilt in the 14th century into a Gothic castle, and in the 17th century the architect Jules Hardouin-Mansart transformed the building into a magnate estate. Currently, it is a place of many cultural activities - historical reconstructions, concerts, theater performances and exhibitions.
