The historic manor house was built in the 14th century, but owes its Renaissance-Gothic appearance mainly to the expansion from the beginning of the 17th century. Currently, it houses a museum, and its richly decorated interiors reflect the life of Danish nobility over the centuries.
The castle houses a collection of works of art from the Renaissance, through Baroque and Rococo to the art of the 19th century. The rooms of servants and utility rooms, including the manor's kitchen and pantry, are also open to the public.
